1st int'l 'shogi' tournament games starts

The two-day first international amateur ''shogi''(Japanese chess) championship tournament game began in downtown Tokyo on June 19, with 32 participants from 27 countries, including the United States, Israel and the Philippines. The competitors are playing on the chessboard used for shogi. On the sidelines, eight computers produced by companies in Japan, North Korea and elsewhere will compete in a computerized shogi tournament.
